Baton Rouge, La. – WESTPAC, EASTPAC, NORTHPAC and SOUTHPAC, political action committees of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry (LABI), today announced their endorsement for the 2016 Supreme Court election to replace retiring Justice Jeanette Theriot Knoll. After careful consideration each PAC decided to endorse Judge Marilyn Castle Supreme Court.
“Our members understand that while many are focused on the legislative fall elections, campaigning for next year’s Supreme Court seat is kicking into gear,” Brian Landry LABI’s PAC Executive Director, said. “Candidates were interviewed thoroughly and Judge Castle’s judicial temperament perfectly matched the criteria we look for in judicial candidates.”
District three on the Louisiana Supreme Court covers eight Parishes in the southwest portion of the state from Calcasieu Parish to Avoyelles Parish.
The Honorable Marilyn C. Castle, Chief Judge of the 15th Judicial District Court, based in Lafayette, Louisiana, is running against Judge James T. Genovese who currently serves on the Louisiana Third Circuit Court of Appeal, based in Opelousas, Louisiana.
Judge Marilyn C. Castle received her Juris Doctorate degree from the Louisiana State University Law Center in 1976. She served as an Assistant District Attorney from 1976 to 1979. From 1979 until her election to the bench in November 1998, Judge Castle was engaged in a litigation practice, primarily in the areas of business and commercial litigation.
She has served as President of the Lafayette Parish Bar Association, on the Board of Governors and House of Delegates of the Louisiana State Bar Association and as a member of the steering committee of the Citizen’s Summit on Justice Reform. She is a Fellow of the Louisiana State Bar Foundation and a Founding Master of the John M. Duhe Chapter of the American Inns of Court. She currently serves as First Vice President of the Louisiana District Judges Association.
